April 2006 Archives

May updates

|

Tons of new flyers are being scanned right now... some of the highlights are Give Up The Ghost @ Keswick, Converge @ Keswick, Ganthet @ Sleep Chamber, The Promise Ring @ Spark's... many of these and more are already up or will be up soon.

And in the mp3s area, the BLOODFART casette entitled COLOSTOMY CUMCAKE is available for download.

Coathangers CD

|

The Coathangers will be recording and releasing a new CD of anti-baby jams soon:

"Alright, we finally got our shit together and decided to record an actual album. A lot of people have a copy of our demo (the "Die Baby, Die! EP" 4-05) which we recorded with Dustin. We are recording with him again, but now the man has a whole new setup including an old school reel to reel 8-track recorder. We're rerecording the songs from the demo and will have a track listing of 12 songs. It's all DIY and out of our pockets, so it's a long hard road. But hopefully we'll have it out by this summer or this fall at the latest. I will keep all you kiddies informed as the info unravels.

goodbye forever,

daniel"

Hand To Hand studio has moved!

|

Ari Blum's Hand To Hand Studio has moved into a brand new location at 756 S First Street. He has also set up a new website at http://www.handtohandstudio.com.

The website contains photos of the new place, which seems like a very clean, inviting environment. Prices have also been posted on the site as follows:

Starting prices:
:$20 a hour to track.
:$50 a song for flat mix.
:$75 a song for more advanced mix.
Advanced mix includes automation, drum edits, auto-tune, and the use of third part plug-ins.

Block Pricing available for recording more then three songs

Chris Higdon and wife Jessie Kriech recently contacted the site to let me know about their family's photography venture - perfect for weddings, portraits, press photos, live bands photography or even photography for your bands' CDs. I'm going to throw a link to their site up in the "art" section and the links page. Right now there are photos of Your Black Star, The Shooting Gallery, Coliseum, and more up on the site to check out.

Mr. Higdon also mentioned that he has a wealth of photos from the early/mid 90s era of Louisville punk that he is interested in sharing with people. Hopefully there will be an awesome archive of his photos available to the public in coming months (possibly as part of this site) to help document such bands as Endpoint, Falling Forward, Enkindel, Erchint and many more. When it all gets worked out, you can hear about it here. - http://www.kriechphoto.com

Aaron & Bodies

|

Apparently, Aaron Orgasm is no longer playing drums for Bodies, and they are probably looking for a drummer. When asked if I could write on the front page that he "....quit bodies because they weren't getting nearly half the record deal that Equal And Ultra got with Victory...", Aaron just replied "Uhhhh, yeah sure, i guess. Do what you must."

from the band:
"Bodies regrettfully has to announce that due to circumstances out of our control our tour around the region had to be cancelled. we feel like shit for booking these show and then ditching out on them. we should have a full time drummer in the next few weeks and plan on our next show being in elwood , indiana on may 12th .we will be raging in BEASTVAN in support of our new EP " Hurricane Bodies!"

we do have two tours lined up, one of which will hit iowa, minnesota, illinois and northern indiana in late may and one through indiana, michigan, and illinois in july with our buds in this endeavor from northern indiana. we will have info on that posted soon.

in the meantime, check out our webstore at http://www.engineerrecordsusa.com"

Pusher

|

Since I threw up the bit about Young Widows, the following has come to my attention:

"In related news, former Breather Resist vocalist Steve Sindoni has started a band called Pusher. The band also features former Lickgoldensky drummer Eric McManus and will enter the studio with Chris Owens (of Lords) next month."

Oddly enough, I found out about this via Lambgoat.com instead of anyone here in town.

Introducing... Young Widows

|

Since Breather Resist went on sabbatical a few months back with the loss of Steve Sindoni, many people have been wondering what the future (if any) of the band would be. Many people thought it would just cease to exist since Nick Thieneman joined Black Cross. Well, the answer is now set in stone that Breather Resist is dead.

However, in it's place is Young Widows (seen on left), with Nick, Evan Patterson, and Jeoff Patton. They have recorded several songs - Mirror Fucker and The Charmers (shit that could be a band name right there) and placed them on their Slutspace. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/YOUNGWIDOWS

Louisville Punk 1978-84

|

Old-school punker Douglas Maxson has spent the last few months scanning his heart out and compiling a mind-blowing collection of flyers, set lists, photos, and much more from the original era of Louisville's Punk scene... Focusing on the 1069 Bardstown Road group, if you consider yourself punk and live in this area, you owe it to these kids. Check it out or I will cut you.

Manhatta

|

Jacob and Spencer from Victory Records' own Equal And Ultra have started a new band with Sarah from Desultory and Paul and Jordan from Morning Belle. If you are interested, there are mp3s up on their (of course) Teenspace page at http://www.myspace.com/manhatta

Check them out this summer on tour with Gorilla Biscuits, Hatebreed, Coldplay, and Menudo. (ok, not really. just check them out when they start playing soon)

Equal And Ultra signs to Victory

|

Victory Records, home to such down as fuck punk rock original jems as Atreyu, Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, Action Action, Bayside, and The Hurt Process have signed a contract with Louisville's EQUAL AND ULTRA. Boasting that this contract will fetch them "way more than the lots and lots of money that BTGOG signed for", Equal And Ultra have started working on a full length entitled "Lipstick, Brass Knuckles, And Crying" and have a sample track up on their site. They also recently completed a makeover provided by the freshman class of Atherton high school, as seen below. The band would like to give a shout out to them for the good job and for finding mascara that doesn't run too bad.

From L to R: Catherine Parman, Jacob Goessling, Duncan Cherry, Spencer Noland, and their new $2000/day stylist.

Desultory/Dark Overlords/NQSH

|

Both Desultory and Dark Overlords of the Universe are in the process of getting recordings done. Desultory is recording cheap and simple on their own and DOOTU (ha) are going to give multi-band man Duncan Cherry a shot. No word on whether or not either will be released, although it is likely that the Desultory stuff will just be for the band and/or a very limited release.

Former emolicious band Not Quite Superheroes is in the process of writing a bunch of new stuff. After being told about it, it seems that fans of Kodan Armada and Equal And Ultra may be into the new stuff. Recording will likely commence once the songs are finalized and someone gets Mike some Beano.

DOOTU.. that shit's funny.

LHXC releases on LastFM

|

LastFM, an online radio service coupled with all that social networking junk that has been so popular as of late (journal/friends lists/etc) is now hosting the Ganthet - Excelsior and Redhanded - Making James Hetfield Cry (most of which was previously unreleased) records on their online radio stations.
The site lets you keep track of all the crap that you listen to on your computer and share that information with your friends (they probably do or are planning to share this info with record companies - who knows). Either way, if you already are on the site, and listen to the radio stuff on there, check out the Louisville Hardcore.com records. Peace out broseph.

p.s. those Ganthet records are still available if anyone wants one - $4 for a 7" and a CD!

From Ms. Neumayer:

"Follow The Train and Second Story Man are releasing new records on the same day- Tuesday, April 11th. There will be a double instore performance at Ear X-Tacy that day to celebrate. The show will start at 7 PM. And of course it's free and all ages.
