Coliseum news

Greetings everyone, it’s been a while since a Coliseum update, mainly because we’ve been busy preparing new releases, writing new music, and planning for upcoming tours. I’ll try to keep it brief – but there’s a lot of cool stuff happening that we’re very excited about!

LOUISVILLE SHOW TONIGHT:
First off – If you’re in the Louisville area, we’re playing tonight at the Magnolia Bar & Grill (aka Mag Bar) with Sweet Cobra and Prideswallower, doors are at 9pm and the show is 21 and up. Mag Bar is at 1398 South 2nd Street (2nd & Magnolia) in Louisville.

EUROPEAN TOUR with RISE AGAINST in March:
Rise Against graciously invited us to join them for a couple of weeks of dates in Europe and we gladly accepted. It’s great to be heading right back over after our incredible recent European tour in November/December and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again and playing in front of a lot of new faces. We’ll be doing headlining shows around the Rise Against dates, so check all of the dates below.

SPLIT 7” with SUPERCHUNK for RECORD STORE DAY in April:
As you may recall, we released our cover of the Misfits’ “Bullet” online via Stereogum back in October. A few weeks later Stereogum also premiered a cover of the Misfits’ “Horror Business” by Superchunk, a song they were playing a lot last year on tour after releasing their awesome new album Majesty Shredding. I mentioned the idea of doing a Coliseum & Superchunk split 7” featuring the two Misfits covers to the fine folks at Temporary Residence, who in turn mentioned the idea to Mac from Superchunk / Merge Records, and miraculously a Coliseum / Superchunk split 7” co-released by Temporary Residence and Merge Records is now happening! Superchunk are one of my all-time favorite bands and sharing a 7” with them where we both cover a mutual favorite band, the Misfits, is pretty mind-blowing. The record will be limited to 2,000 copies, pressed on three different colors of vinyl, and will be released on April 16th for Record Store Day, so swing by your favorite local independent record store that day and grab one. For those of you without a nearby indie store, there will be a few hundred copies available from the labels’ mailorder and the bands on tour.

SHIRTS FOR A CURE charity t-shirt:
We donated our Ouroboros t-shirt design to Shirts For A Cure and it is available from them now in an exclusive color combination that have not been available from us previously on tour. Shirts For A Cure is part of  The Syrentha J. Savio Endowment (SSE) established by punk-rock photographer Mark Beemer in 2002. SSE provides financial assistance to underprivileged women who cannot afford expensive breast cancer medicine and therapy. The Shirts For A Cure Project (SFAC) was launched by SSE to give voice to the social concerns of punk bands and their many fans as well as to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention. The proceeds from the sale of the shirt go to help women fighting breast cancer, so check out their site and pick up some shirts! In addition to Coliseum they offer tons of other tees from classic bands including Swiz, Void, Dag Nasty, Converge, Dillinger Four, and hundreds of others. www.Shirtsforacure.com

LIVE AT SKULL ALLEY compilation 7” available in our Shirt Killer Store:
We are featured on the first edition of the Live At Skull Alley 7” series from Brightskull Records, documenting the Louisville scene and the activity at the (now sadly defunct) Skull Alley venue. The compilation 7” features two songs from us on side A (“Blind In One Eye” and “Give Up And Drive”) and Louisville’s ZCFOS and Straight A’s on side B, all recorded live on January 2nd, 2010. The 7” is on colored vinyl and limited to 500 copies. Check out the Coliseum e-store here.

BLACK GOD 7” on NO IDEA:
In Coliseum related news, my new project Black God (with Rob Pennington, Nick Thieneman, and Ben Sears) is releasing our first 7” via No Idea in the next couple of months. You can check out the first song from the 7” here and there will be more info as the release date approaches. It’s great playing with these guys in the bits of downtime between Coliseum activity.

That’s all for now… There are North American tour plans shaping up for May, as well as some other new releases in the works for the summer and fall. We’ll keep running full speed ahead and keep you posted as things are announced. As always, thanks to each and every one of you for your support, it really means the world to us.

See you at the shows,
Ryan / Coliseum
