Xerxes has just wrapped up initial recording with Kevin Ratterman for their upcoming 11-song record for No Sleep Records. Here’s the No Sleep press release from a few days back:
Louisville’s newest youngbloods Xerxes have entered the studio today with the amazing Kevin Ratterman (Coliseum, My Morning Jacket) to begin production on their debut full-length.
Look for the new record Winter 2011/2012.

Xerxes took shape in early 2009 in Louisville, KY. What was once may soon again be the hub of some of the most ferocious and original music coming out of the country’s punk and hardcore underbelly. Xerxes’ sound channels the energy and passion of mid-90’s originators You and I and Saetia, while adding the more upbeat and brutal thrash mentality of contemporaries such as Trash Talk and Ampere, making for a sound that runs the gamut of blast-beat aggression and emotional rumination.

From The New Mexico crew:
“A long time ago, we updated or myspace saying that we would release a new ep sometime in the near future. That was probably about 3 or 4 months ago, definitely sometime over the summer. Now, a few months later, we have 5 new songs recorded. We’ve been playing them live at our shows over the summer so they may or may not be familiar to you (most likely not). The New E.P. will be titled Inductive Reasoning, but will probably end up being shortened to the second ep, or the second demo or whatever. We’re making roughly 200 copies and we’re planning on selling them for 5 dollars.
We are planning to release it November 2nd at our show with The Toasters at Skull Alley.
Hopefully it’ll be ready by then.
If not November 2nd, it will be released the show after that, whenever that may be, right now it’s December 3rd. We’re playing with Outbreak at Skull Alley.
PLEASE come out and support us at these 2 huge shows and buy/take our stuff!”
From Ryan Patterson:
Greetings all. It’s been a while since the last Coliseum update…
First, we’re very happy to welcome Coliseum’s new drummer Carter Wilson to the fold. Carter hails from Birmingham and we tracked him down on the suggestion of Young Widows, who we thank very much for the tip. He joined the band in August and has seamlessly learned our old songs while diving headlong into new material. Many movies, burritos and good times have been shared in the last few months and we look forward to many more down the road. We’ll be hitting the road this month for the first time since June, debuting some new songs and playing our first batch of shows with Carter.
If anyone is looking for their daily/monthly/yearly taste of poppy-ish punk, check out Alcohawk’s myspace where they’ve posted some new songs. They’ll also have (free!) CD demos available at the show they’re playing Friday at Skull Alley.
