For you old timers out there, you may remember a time when this site had 30+ folders of old flyers, largely from 1995-2010. There was a whole lot there. And then at one point due to some tech issues as well as just too many other things going on, the flyer archive was kind of … downgraded. The code side of things was a mess. And really, the ‘archive’ part was pretty crappy too, at least insofar as any kind of date formatting, tagging, etc. What’s been up since… probably 2013 has topped out around 300 flyers, posters, handbills, etc. Well, that changes today (fuckin’ finally).

The new LHxC flyer archive is now up and ready for you to poke around. This newer version is launching with 1900+ files. Scans of posters, handbills and misc has been joined in this overwhelmingly digital age by a ton of digital flyer downloads. Look, that sounds cheap and easy and maybe it is. But it’s still something to collect and preserve. In the cases where a physical copy is available, trust me, it’s grabbed and thrown into the old overflowing flyer boxes even if what is shown here is just a straight digital copy. So what all are you getting with this update other than more crap to regret being online as you get older?
- 1900+ flyers – mostly from Louisville, but capturing some out of town shows or tours by Louisville and Louisville-connected groups
- Filtering by Year – want to see what was going on in 2002? Now you can without listening to one of our old asses talk like Grandpa Simpson for hours. And yeah, a lot of the years are probably wrong, particularly before ’98.
- Filtering by Venue – same as above but goddamn Mag Bar has put on a lot of shows over the years!
- Filtering by Band/Performer – this one may halfway be a mistake, but most of the bands on any given flyer are now tagged and filterable. So any show that we have a flyer for that Sancred, Inclination, Wvrm, Avail, or whoever else played – you can see just those. For now, only one band/performer at a time in the search
- Mix/Match Filters – you can filter it down to see what flyers we have for Knocked Loose in 2018 vs 2024 for example, or see what Erchint flyers are available from The Cherokee in 1992 (don’t look that up, not sure there is one)
- Artist tags – while not searchable, the new archive has capability to display credits for whoever designed, drew, photographed, screen printed or whatever else happened to make the flyer exist. A lot of work goes into making this stuff at times, and they all need more credit. That said, NO IDEA who made most of these, so please send in info! Which leads to –
- Two email buttons on each flyer – one to share with others, one to email the site and notify of any issues. If you made a flyer and don’t want it up (hope not), want to alert us about changes to make, or some other business, this will hopefully streamline communication. No FB or whatever social media share or contact link garbage, fuck all of that.
- The process for adding new stuff on the backend is streamlined a bit, so expect more on the way. There’s a new batch of Brycc House era early 00s stuff to be scanned thanks to Own Graham, more personal collection items to be scanned, and talks with a few others like Duncan Cherry about getting ahold of more stuff to scan. Pair that with the awesomely active state of Louisville’s music scene right now, and there’s no way to get ahead, but plenty of stuff to keep adding.
So all that said, there’s still a lot missing. There always will be. No bands, shows, venues, or artists have been excluded no purpose, but it’s impossible to cover everyone in any sort of equal way. But if you have anything you’re interested in sending in or letting us scan, please get in touch! As a general rule, the site as a digital entity just wants to consume scans and not take your original items. But if you don’t want to hang on to things anymore, this is a safe place to drop things off to be digitized. And at some point, anything print or digital will definitely end up with the LUMA, it’s literally going in my Will.
