Pocket Transistor comp release show
Hey, when was the last time you heard a compilation coming out of Louisville? That’s what I thought, so I thought I’d make one, and here it is! .. or will be. Coming out June 16th, the genre hoppingly mad compilation called Pocket Transistor, for unknown reasons, features 14 of my favorite bands, and one song from me. It will be limited to 200 cassettes, and the first fifty are DIY to the core, hand painted, personally dubbed, and individually numbered. All tapes come with a digital download and will be in Underground Sounds and Astro Black Records in the coming weeks. The artists featured are:
Bosco, The Bottom Sop, Busted Soles, Dark Silver Skies, Egret, Fast Friends, huH Robots, Alex Major, Moon Control, NO copper, Plastic Bubble, Reading Group, Those Ugly People, Toothpicks for Robots, and Tropical Trash.
So to celebrate this compilation coming together we’ve organized a release party over at The Mammoth artspace! This is going to be a huge event featuring SEVEN acts. They are:
Alex Glasnovic
I’m going to start of the night and play a few songs with a rotating cast. Lots of fast guitar and yelling.
Plastic Bubble
Former Genius File and Tell Me members have a new act, and I have the pleasure of providing their debut appearance. Plastic Bubble almost feels like you’re travelling back about twenty years and listening to the new wave of power pop E6 was pioneering.

Those Ugly People
Formerly Yo’Majesty and the Eracists, they found a new name after realizing the former was way too long and awfully confusing for some. With a voice that screams soul and a sound that is pure pop it’s hard to not have a good time listening to them.

Egret
-Hopped on the show last minute, but really, Egret could’ve asked the day before and I would’ve found a way to make room. Egret’s songs bob and sway and slowly work their way into your brain. Folksy americana music that is guaranteed to captivate.

Reading Group
-Some of my favorite folks ever. Catchy, dancey punk rock at it’s finest. Anything else said would just be redundant.

Busted Soles
-I have no idea how to describe Busted Soles but they are wonderful. A little bit cabaret, a little bit psychedelic, a little bit new weird america, and still we’re not even scratching the surface.

The Broken Laughter Ensemble
-Mystery jazz xtet featuring members of Tropical Trash, NO copper, Sapat, Softcheque, and many more I’m sure.
In addition to all of this there will be a dollar raffle for one huge giveaway. Artists from the comp have donated patches, cds, tapes, and shirts to be included in a giant prize box. I will post pictures when it’s complete, but trust me this is something you’ll want to get in on. We will draw for a winner before the last band of the night so be sure you stick around!
In addition to even that there will be a mile long merch table with merchandise from all fifteen acts. If you decide a raffle is too much of a risk you’ll be sure to find plenty here.
One more addition is that there is going to be artwork from these participants lining the walls of The Mammoth as well as a select outside group, so please, even though the bands are worth your attention, wander around, check out the space.
Once again.
