TRIM – Deerskull

TRIM – Deerskull

Here’s a real late update/post that should have gone up almost two months ago. Better late than never I guess!

——-

In May of 1999, Doug Maxson’s old band Trim headed over to the Rocket House. Recording with Jon Cook, they managed to track 9 songs onto 1/2 8-track reel then do a “crappy raw mix to DAT”. Unfortunately, not too long afterwards the band lost interest and not much of anything happened to the recordings. Well, Doug couldn’t leave things alone and has wanted to do something with the records for years. Says Doug:

Because, I guess, I like having albatrosses around my neck. Trim was a trainwreck of a band, a crown of thorns I wore for 3 years. We played a couple brilliant shows, though mostly my live cassettes are labeled “Too Much Whiskey!” and “Too High To Fly!” The recording session was just as unpromising…we arrived at noon, got a bunch of beer, smoked a bunch of weed, but then technical difficulties shouldered in and we didn’t start playing until 9 in the evening. We finished up the vocal overdubs at 2 in the morning. Nevertheless, over the years, I remained convinced there was gold in them thar hills.

So finally after 12 years (exactly), Doug grabbed Brett Holsclaw and Trip Barriger to mix down the 9 songs at Treehouse Audio. He’s spent the last year putting together funding and layout, and put the songs out recently. You can pick it up at Hal Dolls shows and it is available via the Noise Pollution – $10 CD or for download. http://noisepollution.bandcamp.com/album/deerskull

Jon Cook Memorial

On this coming Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at 5pm, there will be a memorial service in Jon Cook’s memory. True to Jon’s life, it will be as much of a musical event as a memorial service with a pot luck and raffle as well. Full Details available on the Facebook Event Page or below.

Haymarket Whiskey video and pics

The more or less first punk/hardcore show at the current incarnation of Haymarket (being the incarnation with a huge backroom just for music) went off pretty well the other night. Not only that, but it was pretty well recorded for the most part. There’s some video of All Dead’s last song up to and through where they blew out a fuse on just about their last note. There’s also video of Permanent Night’s entire set (set list below). There were at least 3 people taking photos, if any one else has them online, I’ll link to them below.

Two nights, two shows – March 10/11, 2013

Alex Rhema has two back to back shows coming up next month that you should check out. Shit, there’s a TON of shows in March. There’s absolutely no reason to be stuck in your house unless you’re an alchemist trying to turn yourself into a golden fatass slug. If you’re trying that specific thing, I’m… impressed. Otherwise, get up and get out jerks. Both shows are at Haymarket on Market St and are All Ages.

Anwar Sadat – Gold

Anwar Sadat – Gold

Anwar Sadat has been pretty busy the last few months with tons of out of town shows as well as a spate of Louisville gigs. They’ve been laying down some groundwork in anticipation for a new 12″ record entitled “Gold” which will be hitting the streets and the web on March 8th, 2013. On the 8th, Cropped Out, The Other Side of Life, and Astro Black will present a release show at Quills/Astro Black to celebrate. Also playing the show will be Whips/Chains and The New Mexico (thought they were done, shows what little I know). The show will be at 10pm for $5, and of course all ages.
