Louisville, Kentucky-based artist Evan Patterson is primarily known for his creative work as a singer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist in the bands Young Widows and Jaye Jayle. What most don’t know is that Evan’s original creative outlet is visual art. As a grade-schooler in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, he was reticent to do anything in his classes other than make art. Doodling on the insides of his textbooks quickly turned into sculpting, painting, and creating art with any medium he could access. At the turn of the new century, upon moving to Louisville after high school, he landed a job as a screen printer and was a natural printmaker. In recent years, Evan has expanded into the world of carpentry, which has also been incorporated into his artwork.

SONGS WITHOUT WORDS OR SOUND is Evan’s first solo art show and the release of his debut self-released book of the same name. The show features large-scale exterior paintings and a sculpture made entirely with materials suited to survive outdoor weather conditions, three new limited-edition screen prints drawn and printed by Evan, and nearly seventy original pen and ink pieces taken directly from his sketchbook. These illustrations are all included in Evan’s SONGS WITHOUT WORDS OR SOUND book. In the same spirit as a poster book, each page is an archival-quality print and worthy of framing. Each book is bound in a flat black soft cover adorned with beautiful metallic gold ink screen printed artwork. Every book is handmade and assembled in Louisville, Kentucky by local artist Lake Tracy at his Gasoline Press.
